Liverpool: Source provides Tchouameni boost

Liverpool have been handed a boost to their chances of signing AS Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, as per a report from Football Insider.

The lowdown: Strong interest

As the Reds continue their quest for more silverware this season, away from matters on the field new sporting director Julian Ward is already hard at work outlining the summer’s top targets.

Recent reports have heavily linked the Anfield club with a sensational swoop for Tchouameni, while Calvin Ramsay is also thought to be a main target as Jurgen Klopp attempts to further strengthen an already well-stocked squad.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-32/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Now as the Ligue 1 campaign heads into its own final two games with Monaco currently sitting third and in next season’s UEFA Champions League as a result, the French outfit may already be bracing themselves for life after their highly sought after 22-year-old.

The latest: Monaco now ready to sell

As per a recruitment source at FI, Monaco are believed to be ‘putting together a list of targets’ in order to replace Tchouameni this summer.

The report calls it a ‘major development’ and a ‘boost’ for Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City, whilst elsewhere Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both been tipped to challenge for the defensive midfielder’s signature.

It’s claimed that the youngster, described as ‘exceptional’ by French football journalist Julien Laurens, has ‘excited’ talent spotters of the Premier League clubs and Monaco are now ready to cash in.

The verdict: Win the race

Put simply, given the levels of competition from England and indeed Europe’s elite, Liverpool and moreover, FSG, must do everything in their power to win the race for the exciting eight-cap France star.

So far this season, Tchouameni has scored five times and provided two assists in 48 appearances across all competitions, taking his overall career tally to 130 senior domestic outings despite his tender years.

Holding a market value of £36million and under contract in France until 2024 (Transfermarkt), if indeed Monaco are preparing for a sale then Liverpool must do whatever it takes to bring in the combative ace, who is already an experienced operator for both club and country.

Should Liverpool get rid of Henderson?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp must ruthlessly axe “influential” club captain Jordan Henderson as he is the weakness in their midfield and a better replacement is needed in the summer.

On the chalkboard

Liverpool are fighting on all fronts at the moment and are hunting down an unprecedented quadruple. But they face stiff competition from Real Madrid in the Champions League and Manchester City in the Premier League, and they veered slightly off course in the title race when failing to beat Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Henderson was one the players who failed to shine in the game at Anfield and was substituted after 65 minutes being replaced by Diogo Jota. He failed to make a single tackle in the whole time he was on the pitch and barely contributed. Furthermore, he gave up possession of the ball every five minutes which will have been a key factor in the team dropping points.

Whilst his leadership and strong voice in the dressing room might go unmatched, there’s only so many times you can use that as a reason to be playing him.

Henderson has been a vital part of Liverpool’s success in recent years but there is a feeling that his qualities are slightly diminishing, with Roy Keane describing him as a “cheerleader” and questioning why he was in the England squad during Euro 2020.

The 31-year old moved to Merseyside from his boyhood club Sunderland in 2011 and is currently the longest-serving player at the club. He is, and always will be considered a legend in the eyes of the fans, and he has rightly earnt that status. However, he is no longer a player who is capable starting every week for one of the best teams in Europe.

Liverpool have to accept that and Klopp has to make it his priority to bring in a third world class midfielder to sit alongside Fabinho and Thiago next season.

If you compare Henderson to them both he doesn’t produce performances that are close to what they consistently produce. Both players have a higher pass completion percentage that the Englishman and have successfully completed more dribbles.

Henderson’s time at Anfield isn’t necessarily over, but the club need to rely on him less if they are to keep competing at the highest level. He still has a major role to play in the squad as a leader and captain, just not as a player who is a key starter.

Aston Villa: Dean Jones makes Victor Nelsson claim

Transfer insider Dean Jones has made a claim regarding Aston Villa’s interest in Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson, GiveMeSport report.

The Lowdown: Villa links

Villa appear to be on the hunt for defensive reinforcements this summer, with the futures of Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings up in the air.

Nelsson has been just one centre-back who has been linked with a move to the Midlands, with reports suggesting Villa are ready to make a ‘serious offer’.

The 6-foot colossus has a €25m (£21m) release clause in his Galatasaray deal and has gone from strength to strength in Turkey this season, with his Transfermarkt valuation increasing from £3.15m to £9m.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Jones, talking to GMS, had this to say on Nelsson, admitting the centre-back is ‘definitely of interest’ to Villa chiefs and urged the club to be ‘smarter’ in the transfer window.

“Victor Nelsson is somebody that is definitely of interest. It’s probably good that they’re looking for players a bit different to all the other names you see linked to all the big clubs.

“Villa have got to be a little bit smarter about their recruitment this summer because they don’t want to get in price wars with some of the other big clubs in the Premier League as you just end up paying over the odds.

“That’s not really a situation they want to be in even though they have got a lot of money.”

The Verdict: Smart move?

Villa could be in for a busy summer ahead of Gerrard’s first full season when it comes to incomings and outgoings, and club officials will know all about the Denmark international.

The 23-year-old was the subject of a £9m bid from Villa back in 2020, so fellow countryman Johan Lange could have been the one to bring him to Gerrard’s attention recently.

It looks as if another offer could be a shrewd move following his impressive form in Turkey, and he may not be the only centre-back to arrive ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Arsenal want to trigger Etta Eyong release clause as signing timeline emerges

Arsenal want to trigger the special release clause in Karl Etta-Eyong’s Levante contract, and the timeline of when a deal could be done has now been revealed.

The Gunners are looking to sign a new striker, despite adding Viktor Gyokeres to their ranks during the summer transfer window, with the Sweden international making a solid start to life in north London, scoring six goals in all competitions and receiving high praise for his display against Burnley.

However, Mikel Arteta continues to struggle on the injury front, with Gyokeres missing the 2-2 draw at Sunderland prior to the international break due to a muscle problem, while Kai Havertz hasn’t appeared since the opening day victory against Manchester United due to a knee issue.

With Gabriel Jesus’ future also in doubt, given that Flamengo have already opened talks to sign the Brazilian striker, it could make sense to bring in a new centre-forward in the January transfer window, and there has now been a development in their pursuit of a La Liga star.

Arsenal planning to trigger Karl Etta Eyeong's release clause

According to a report from Spain, Arsenal are now planning to trigger the special release clause in Etta-Eyong’s Levante contract, with the centre-forward allowed to sign for a Premier League club for a fee of €40m (£35m).

The striker is keen on a move to the Premier League, which suggests the door could be open for a deal to be done, and if everything progresses nicely, an announcement could be made within a matter of weeks.

The north Londoners are willing to pay the full release clause, such is their level of interest, and there are plenty of signs that £35m would be a savvy investment, with the 22-year-old making a flying start to the campaign.

Indeed, the Cameroon international has adapted very well since making the move to Levante in the summer, chipping in with six goals and three assists in his opening 12 La Liga appearances.

Scout Jacek Kulig has also singled the Douala-born striker out for high praise on X, courtesy of the start he has made at Levante.

With Jesus’ future up in the air and Havertz struggling on the injury front, Arteta could do with strengthening his attacking options this winter, and Etta Eyong could be a fantastic addition to the squad at just £35m.

The absolutely brutal way Tottenham told Levy he'll be leaving after 25 years

Tottenham have sent shockwaves through the footballing world by announcing that former chairman, Daniel Levy, has stepped down from his role overseeing club operations — 25 years after he took the reins from Sir Alan Sugar.

During his two-and-a-half-decade-long stay at Spurs, Levy transformed the club into a financial powerhouse off the field.

Their state-of-the-art new stadium and training facilities are among the best in world football, with Levy deserving credit for departing N17 in a much more stable condition than he inherited.

However, on the field, it was a different story.

"ENICOUT" banneroutside Spurs

Levy attracted consistent criticism for his lack of spending compared to other members of the Premier League ‘big six’, and that is widely seen as a real factor in Tottenham only winning two major trophies during the 63-year-old’s tenure.

Levy was at the centre of mass protests, particularly last season, with ENIC taking the decision to part company despite the official statement reading that he left of his own accord.

This is backed up by other reliable media sources, with ENIC’s plan to get more involved at Tottenham essentially weakening Levy’s cast-iron grip on the club, according to insider Paul O’Keefe.

The brutal way Tottenham told Daniel Levy he'd be leaving

Now, according to The Times, it is believed that Levy was told he’d be stepping down from Tottenham in rather brutal fashion.

Indeed, as per their information, Spurs informed Levy of the decision just hours before the club publicly announced it.

Given just how big a role he’s played in making Tottenham a powerhouse away from the pitch, perhaps this wasn’t the most dignified of endings for Levy, despite his mixed reviews from supporters.

In any case, Spurs are adamant that a “new era” has begun after Levy’s departure, which comes months after the ex-chair’s statement that he wanted to win both the Premier League and Champions League.

Int'l break injury news on £40k-p/w Leeds star Farke called "unbelievable"

Leeds United have now been provided with an injury update on a key player, who manager Daniel Farke has previously described as “unbelievable”.

Leeds already struggling on the injury front

With three games played of the new Premier League season, Leeds are likely to be happy with the start they’ve made, having collected four points and kept clean sheets in both of their games at Elland Road.

That is despite the fact two first-team players have already suffered injury setbacks, namely Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu, who are set to spend a little while longer on the treatment table due to MCL issues.

Losing Tanaka will be particularly frustrating for the manager, as the midfielder made a fantastic start to the campaign, being voted Player of the Match for his performance in the 1-0 victory against Everton.

With the international break now upon us, the most important thing for Farke will be all his players returning to Elland Road unscathed, but there has already been a cause for concern.

As reported by the BBC’s Adam Pope, Joe Rodon has withdrawn from the Wales squad ahead of their matches against Kazakhstan and Canada, but thankfully it is not thought to be a major issue.

Leeds United's JoeRodonreacts

Pope added: “I’m told it’s not serious & he should be ok to face Fulham.”

It has since been widely reported that concussion protocols meant Rodon couldn’t be called up for his national side, which will no doubt be frustrating for the 54-time international, but it is a boost for Leeds that he should be fit for the trip to Fulham on September 13th.

"Unbelievable" Rodon has made impressive start to the campaign

Getting a positive result at the Emirates Stadium was always going to be a tall order, and the Whites struggled as expected, but otherwise they have made a promising start to the new campaign, and the Welsh defender has looked impressive.

The 27-year-old has started all three games, most recently putting in a solid display to keep Newcastle United at bay, with a point against a Champions League side certainly not to be sniffed at.

Farke has also made it clear just how highly he rates the defender, who is widely reported to pocket £40k-a-week, saying: “He has unbelievable pace and it is good when we have to defend that high in the field, it helps.

“He brings also aerial threat into our game, we have many smaller, not the tallest players, (it’s) also important for us in terms of set-pieces he is strong in duals and build up passes in his technique.”

As such, the Leeds boss will be grateful Rodon’s injury is likely nothing to be worried about, ahead of their trip to Craven Cottage in just over one week.

Liverpool make contact to sign 22 y/o PSG star and already receive reply

A new report claims Liverpool have made contact with a “superb” Paris Saint-Germain star over a summer move to Anfield and the Champions League winners have already responded.

Liverpool eyeing two Premier League players after Kerkez

Reds supporters couldn’t have asked for a much more positive start to the summer transfer window, with the arrival of Florian Wirtz having the potential to be huge. Not only that, but Jeremie Frimpong has also joined and Milos Kerkez is on the verge of coming in from Bournemouth.

Liverpool’s business may not stop there, however, and another Cherries player, Antoine Semenyo, continues to be linked with a move to the club. He has been mentioned as an option for some time, following an excellent season in the Premier League in 2024/25, in which he scored 11 times.

A new centre-back has to be looked at by the Reds at some point, considering Jarell Quansah is off to Bayer Leverkusen, and a bid for Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi could be made at some point this week.

Further up the pitch, Lyon winger Malick Fofana has been talked about as an exciting young target, with Liverpool ahead of Chelsea in the race to snap him up.

Liverpool make contact with PSG star Barcola

According to The Boot Room, Liverpool have now made contact and enquired with Paris Saint-Germain about signing winger Bradley Barcola this summer.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are all in the same boat, but it is stated that PSG don’t want the France international to leave and have told those clubs their stance.

Paris St Germain's BradleyBarcola

It looks unlikely that Liverpool will be able to entice Barcola to Anfield, but if the situation changes, they should be looking to bring him in as a hugely gifted option.

The Frenchman is now a Champions League winner after PSG’s brilliance last season, and he played his part in the success, scoring three goals and registering four assists in the competition.

At just 22, there is still so much more to come from Barcola as the years pass, and while he is at his best on the left wing, his versatility allows him to be a huge threat on the right flank and even in a central attacking role.

He was lauded as a “superb” player by football talent scout Jacek Kulig back in 2023, and has only grown as a footballer since then, and Liverpool’s best chance of signing him may be if PSG sign another attacker this summer, potentially stunting his growth there.

Gordon Strachan tells Man Utd to sign £30m star who'd be better than Osimhen

After a defeat in the Europa League final and a Premier League campaign filled with disaster, the last thing Manchester United needed was more football.

Ruben Amorim is crying out for a holiday, yearning for some time off, as too are his players.

Sadly, that isn’t the case. They’ve embarked on a post-season tour to Asia, which rather typically, has started in embarrassing fashion.

Facing off against ASEAN All Stars in front of over 70,000 people, a Red Devils team mixed with academy players and experienced senior pros were beaten 1-0.

While the game ultimately doesn’t matter, it did rubber stamp why United are in dire need of improving the squad this summer.

Man United’s summer transfer plans

The season has only just finished but INEOS are already closing in on their first big addition of the summer.

On Tuesday, it was revealed by multiple sources that Matheus Cunha was set to undergo a medical after United agreed to pay his £62.5m release clause at Wolves.

Wolverhampton Wanderers'MatheusCunhacelebrates

He’s not the only forward player who could arrive from another Premier League club, with reports suggesting that they’ve held talks to sign Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo.

The winger was one of the standout players in England’s top-flight this campaign, scoring 20 times, enough to rank him as the fourth top scorer in the league behind Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland.

It’s evident United are doing their utmost to improve the attack and could bolster further through Liam Delap.

One report a few days ago revealed that personal terms had been agreed with the player, although talkSPORT shared the breaking news on Wednesday that he’s now likely to join Chelsea.

With all that said, who would be the number one option for former Manchester United icon Gordon Strachan?

Gordon Strachan's number one option for Man United

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast this week on behalf of Esports Insider, Strachan gave his view on the club’s transfer business this summer.

Asked who would be a better signing, Delap or another target in Victor Osimhen, the former Scotland international said:

“Delap. Absolutely. He’s young, he’s enthusiastic and I don’t think he’ll bring any baggage.” Why is added baggage a problem? Well, Strachan felt like the last thing United needed was another disruptive figure.

“Some recent signings from Man United have had a bit of baggage, in fact the whole club has a bit of baggage at the moment, but Delap would be a safe signing.”

Outlining the Ipswich forward’s best qualities, the player turned pundit commented: “I don’t think defenders like playing against him. If you went round all the defenders in the Premier League and asked who you don’t like playing against, he’d be one of them. This guy seems to really just annoy people, annoy people into making mistakes. He’s a great finisher and there’s a humility about him.”

Compared to Rasmus Hojlund who cost £72m, Delap would be a relative bargain, possessing a reported release clause of £30m.

After Cunha: Man Utd make formal move for "deadly" Garnacho upgrade

Man Utd’s pursuit of Matheus Cunha may well just be the start of a hectic summer

ByRobbie Walls May 28, 2025

INEOS now in direct talks to bring Premier League star to Man Utd with Cunha

With a deal to sign Matheus Cunha reportedly at an advanced stage, INEOS have now reportedly opened talks with another Manchester United target who could join the Brazilian at Old Trafford.

Man Utd advancing in deal to sign Cunha

As revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United’s deal to sign Cunha is still at an advanced stage, with the Red Devils now working on details of the agreement to sign the forward. The deal, itself, is unlikely to be a cheap one for the Red Devils, given the forward’s reported £63m release clause, but it is one that should hand Ruben Amorim an attacking solution once and for all.

United’s interest in Cunha certainly makes sense with Amorim at the helm too. The Manchester United manager has often struggled to get success out of his 3-4-2-1 system during the first six months of his spell in charge, but the arrival of Cunha would go a long way towards helping that system function.

Likely to play in one of the two advanced midfield roles behind the one forward, Cunha could form quite the partnership with Bruno Fernandes to finally sharpen what has been a blunt Manchester United frontline for far too long. What’s more, with 15 Premier League goals to his name in all competitions this season, it’s fair to say that the Wolves star knows exactly where the back of the net is.

Forget Obi: Amorim can finally axe Hojlund for Man Utd's homegrown Gyokeres

Man Utd could have another academy sensation up their sleeve…

That said, he may not be the only one to join Amorim’s attack this summer. Reports have also indicated that INEOS have set their sights on another impressive Premier League attacker.

Man Utd open talks for Semenyo

According to talkSPORT, INEOS have now opened talks with Antoine Semenyo, who could find himself on his way to Manchester United alongside Cunha in the coming months. The Bournemouth winger has enjoyed an excellent season under Andoni Iraola to earn the attraction of clubs of the Red Devils’ stature. Now, he looks set to have a decision to make.

When compared to Rasmus Hojlund, it’s clear that both Cunha and Semenyo would offer Amorim two much-needed upgrades this summer. When it comes to goal involvements, both targets have outperformed the Dane, whose output has been disappointing and record of underperforming his expected goals even more frustrating for those at Old Trafford.

Dubbed “strong” by analyst Ben Mattinson, whether Semenyo is willing to leave Bournemouth – a side fighting for European qualification – for a struggling Manchester United side is the big question.

It’s one that the winger must ask himself and one that United must be honest about with themselves. After such a disastrous campaign, that’s the position that they’re in.

Micah Richards claims £35m Leeds target would "light up" the Premier League

Football pundit Micah Richards believes a Leeds United target who the 49ers have made an approach for will “light it up” should he leave Man City this summer, according to a new report.

James McAtee’s Man City career could be coming to an end amid Leeds links

James McAtee has been at the Etihad for his entire football career, but he has yet to nail down a regular starting spot. The 22-year-old has played just 34 times for City in total, 15 of which have come this season in the Premier League.

McAtee’s most successful time in recent seasons came on loan at Sheffield United, where he was a regular starter and thrived in the second tier.

After his latest spell with the Blades, City decided to keep hold of McAtee, but it is a move that has seen his career stall, as he’s struggled to win over Pep Guardiola, and it’s now been reported that he is ready to leave the Etihad.

The attacking midfielder is out of contract in 2026, and given his situation at the Etihad, Premier League-bound Leeds United have made an enquiry over the possibility of securing a transfer for McAtee this summer.

The Whites are not the only team chasing McAtee, as Nottingham Forest are also keen on landing the England under-21 international. It could be a costly deal for the Yorkshire side, as City are said to value the midfielder at around £35 million.

Micah Richards: McAtee will "light it up" should he leave Man City

The latest development in McAtee’s situation at Man City saw the midfielder left out of their FA Cup final squad on Saturday, and according to pundit Micah Richards, McAtee would “light it up” should he leave the Blues.

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer believes McAtee needs to leave City if he wants to play regularly. Speaking on the latest episode of ‘The Rest Is Football’, via Leeds Live: “He [McAtee] is not getting in their team. He’s another one that is going to have to leave.”

Richards went on to agree with Shearer’s comments and added that “he’s got something special” and will “light it up” in a new team.

McAtee has played 48 times in the Premier League, scoring six goals in the process, and if Leeds do sign him, they will hope his experience of the division, even though it is limited, will help them next season, and he can be a creative force in their forward line.
