Tottenham Hotspur: Danny Rose seems destined for the exit as Spurs are ready to let him go

Newcastle United are prepared to offer Tottenham Hotspur £5m for Danny Rose this summer.

The left-back has quickly become Steve Bruce’s first choice in that position after moving to Newcastle on loan in January. According to Football Insider, the Magpies are keen to sign the Tottenham ace in the summer.

Rose appears to be destined to leave north London once and for all as Spurs are set to sanction a transfer. The Lilywhites are willing to let him leave as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

While dialogue between the defender and Jose Mourinho has been civil, there is no love lost between the two. Recent reports have suggested that Spurs are ready to reach an agreement as quickly as possible, although Rose is looking for a long-term deal.

The 30-year-old, who is best mates with former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck, is keen to extend his stay at St James’ Park.

A permanent move could be beneficial for all parties involved, as there is no way back for him at Tottenham. He was once considered to be one of the best full-backs in Europe, as he was valued at £50m at the peak of his powers and even attracted attention from Manchester United, but his star has waned in recent years and he seems to have settled for a stint in Tyneside instead.

The England international has received offers from overseas but he wants to stay in the Premier League.

Mourinho is well aware that his budget has been severely slashed as a result of the unprecedented market circumstances. A little could go a long way, as he knows he will have to rely on swap deals, signing free agents and bargains in the summer, and he may be tempted to cut his losses and accept the offer from Newcastle.

In turn, he could promote Dennis Cirkin instead and look to bolster his squad elsewhere.

Tottenham fans, should Daniel Levy sell Danny Rose in the summer? Let us know in the comments below!

Glasgow Rangers: Alan Hutton thinks Gers will look for £20m for Alfredo Morelos

Alan Hutton believes that it will take a £20m bid to convince Glasgow Rangers to sell Alfredo Morelos this summer.

The Colombia international has been continually linked with a move away from Ibrox over the past few weeks and months, with a number of clubs from Atletico Madrid to Everton all said to be interested in his services. It has even been reported that the 54-time Scottish champions expect to lose him this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Gers player Hutton says that it will take a monumental bid to convince the club to move him on. He explained:

“It’s all about the money, we understand with the pandemic that we’re not sure how the transfer market’s going to work out but if they get a figure in the region of £20million-plus for him, I think definitely their (Rangers) heads will turn and they’ll look to cash in.

“Ultimately they can strengthen in other areas of the pitch so it will be difficult to turn down. I think he’s proved himself to a lot of people and it’s probably from the European stage.

“He’s done well in a lot of the games, he’s not been that prolific against Celtic and in some of the big SPL games but I think on the European stage he’s really come up trumps and scored a lot of goals.”

That would be a huge offer, and one that is unlikely to be forthcoming at this current time. The pandemic that has engulfed the planet will put restraints on what clubs can spend this summer, and despite scoring 77 goals in 137 matches and 29 last season alone, £20m for a player from the Scottish Premiership may be just too much of a risk.

Having said that, the Gers should not let him go cheaply, either – they could still get more than his £10.8m Transfermarkt value. It remains to be seen where Morelos ends up this summer.

Phil Hay reveals Jack Harrison’s updated option to buy fee

Leeds United have wasted no time at all in getting their transfer business started ahead of their first Premier League campaign in 16 years.

The Whites have already announced the permanent signing of Illan Meslier, and they’re also expected to announce Jack Harrison’s return on loan for a third time, with a re-negotiated option to buy at the end of the season.

United had the option to purchase Harrison for £8m this summer, but they’ve instead opted to move that to next year, keeping him on loan for one more season.

Understandably, they’ve had to re-negotiate the fee with Manchester City, and Phil Hay has now revealed just how much they will have to pay for him if they want to sign him permanently.

What’s been said then?

The journalist was speaking on his podcast about the Harrison situation, going over the fact that he’ll be staying on loan for another year rather than signing permanently this summer.

Eventually, he got onto the fact that the fee will be slightly higher than originally agreed.

“If they take him on permanently next summer, which I expect them to, they will have to pay slightly more. You’d be looking at £10m rather than £8m, and it suits everybody to do that.” He said (The Phil Hay Show 24/2/20 23:30)

Great move

As things stand, Harrison is a winger proven at Championship level, and £8m for a player of that calibre doesn’t necessarily represent great value, but it would be a decent deal for Leeds to complete, considering the fees we’ve seen paid for the likes of Anthony Knockaert and Tom Ince in recent years, two players who haven’t produced at the same rate as Harrison this term.

However, Leeds do plan on being a Premier League outfit going forward, so having Championship standard players isn’t really what they’re going to be about, so if Harrison doesn’t show he’s up to top-flight standards next term, they can be rid of him with very little fuss, while if he does prove himself, £10m for a winger who can cut it in the Premier League is a great bit of business.

Leeds News: Whites see improved bid for 22-year-old star declined

Leeds United’s 2019/20 season has been a huge success and now, they will reap the rewards and play some Premier League football in the upcoming campaign. A big part of their triumph, however, was definitely the young Ben White who spent the season on loan at Elland Road and has now officially returned to his parent club, Brighton and Hove Albion.

Marcelo Bielsa is keen on getting the 22-year-old back and according to a new report from Sky Sports, Leeds United have sent a bid for the youngster but were unsuccessful two times already. The first offer was around £18.5m and the second and improved one around £22m. Both, however, were deemed insufficient by the Seagulls.

Brighton, on the other hand, also want to ensure White remains at the club and are reportedly even trying to tie him down to fresh terms with an improved two-year contract with an option for a third one. So far, however, the 22-year-old defender has declined two offers from the club and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.

Of course, during his time at Elland Road, White has managed to establish a great relationship with his teammates, especially with Leeds captain Liam Cooper. He ended up playing in all 46 of their Championship clashes, ultimately giving them a helping hand in producing a total of 22 clean sheets.

This, undoubtedly, was a huge part of their chase of Premier League football for the 2020/21 season.

Verdict

Needless to say, White has been huge for Leeds throughout the last term and getting him on a permanent deal would give Bielsa the boost he needs to compete in the English top-flight.

Brighton, however, are aware of the lad’s quality so it’s not surprising they want a lot of money if they are to part with him. But at the moment, it does seem like Leeds should do all they can to snatch him away.

Aston Villa news: Dean Smith makes Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard his transfer priority

After narrowly securing their survival in the Premier League, Dean Smith will have to do everything possible to boost the squad for the upcoming 2020/21 season. Of course, Aston Villa, just like the rest of the footballing world, won’t get much rest nor a proper pre-season, so the clock is already ticking.

But luckily, the Villains have already identified the areas that definitely need strengthening this summer. Smith has decided a new forward is essential and while there are reportedly numerous candidates, The Sun state Villa have made Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard their number one priority.

The young goal machine has been utterly incredible all the way through and is undoubtedly dominating the Scottish Premier League.

Of course, for that exact reason, he wouldn’t come cheap and it will take a hefty bid to even turn Neil Lennon’s head and the Sun say Villa will try with a £30m offer. At the moment, we don’t know whether that will be enough to convince the Scottish giants to part with their jewel.

Arsenal were also mentioned as interested but Mikel Arteta has now dropped out of the race, leaving Smith to face off against the likes of Crystal Palace and Leicester City.

Whatever ends up happening, one thing is for sure, Edouard might indeed be set for a switch to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

Verdict

Villa’s attack has been lacklustre throughout the campaign and adding a 28-goal machine to their ranks would undoubtedly give them the boost they are craving so much.

Of course, this will be much easier said than done. After all, Edouard is a wanted man and a star back in Glasgow. For that reason, not only will Celtic aim to keep him there for as long as they can but the price might be more than Smith can currently splash out.

Chelsea: Gary Neville delivers verdict on Ruben Loftus-Cheek future

Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be looking at a fringe role with Chelsea as Frank Lampard plans for the future.

The England international missed almost the entirety of last season due to an achilles injury. He made a mere ten appearances overall, with one coming from the reserve league (via Transfermarkt).

Loftus-Cheek started Chelsea’s first match of the season against Brighton, but had little impact on the game. After making just 11 successful passes and losing ten of his 13 duels attempted, he was substituted off for Ross Barkley slightly after the hour mark (via Sofascore).

The 24-year-old could be dropped to the bench once Hakim Ziyech and key player Christian Pulisic return from injury. Gary Neville also believes this is the case and thinks Chelsea should cash in sooner rather than later.

“I thought he was really disappointing. I don’t think Loftus-Cheek can complain. He’s been given games,” the Manchester United icon told Sky Sports (via Independent). “I don’t think he’s ever grasped his chance yet. There’s going to come a point when they’re going to cash in and get £25million for him.”

As a product of the Chelsea academy, Frank Lampard may be reluctant to let Loftus-Cheek leave the club. Despite a loan move to Crystal Palace in 2017, the midfielder has never played for another side. However, at 24, he should be playing regular football, if not being the focal point of the team.

Lampard defended the player’s performance and role at the club following their win over Brighton on Monday.

“We certainly have to give him a bit of time on those fronts. It’s a position that Ruben can play for us,” he said in a post-match interview.

It certainly seems as though Lampard values Loftus-Cheek as a senior member of the team. Only the season will show whether he is strong enough to be included ahead of some of Chelsea’s best players.

James Rodriguez signing could see Everton benefit for years to come

There’s a lot to be excited about after James Rodriguez was announced as an Everton player.

The former World Cup Golden Boot winner has the pedigree to be one of the best players in the Premier League having played for both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, winning two Champions League trophies with the former.

However, away from the pitch, this may have another significant impact on the club.

It’s no secret that Rodriguez is one of the most popular footballers in the world, boasting more Instagram followers than any Premier League club, and while it’s performances on the pitch that matter, the business side of football is absolutely massive in terms of working towards winning silverware.

Unfortunately, Everton aren’t that commercially savvy, having just 1.9m Instagram followers, a tally almost 25m lower than local rivals Liverpool.

However, Rodriguez could help turn that tide, and if Everton make the most of his reach and following, particularly in South America, they could see financial and marketing benefits for years to come.

Watch Everton Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

Just look at the recent Tottenham Hotspur Amazon Prime documentary as evidence for this, segments dedicated to South Korean fans travelling across the world to watch Heung-Min Son play, and a heart-warming scene where a young Brazilian supporter gets to meet Lucas Moura shows that these markets are there to be tapped into, and if Everton play their cards right, they could have a massive worldwide following very soon.

It couldn’t come at a better time either, the Toffees are planning on moving into a new 52,000 capacity stadium in 2023, and if they have millions of fans across the world clamouring to watch Rodriguez play, they will have no trouble at all selling out on a weekly basis.

This could be a huge step in Everton’s evolution into a truly global club that garners support from all over the world.

Rodriguez’s impact on the pitch remains to be seen, but from an economic standpoint, this could be a massive move for the Merseyside club.

Pascal Struijk could be Leeds’ new Ben White

Leeds United have just embarked on their first Premier League season in 16 years, but despite all of the positivity around Elland Road at the moment, there is one dark cloud still lingering the background.

Ben White will not be moving to Leeds permanently this summer after signing a new long-term contract with Brighton, and while the arrivals of Robin Koch and Diego Llorente have somewhat softened that blow, it is a blow nonetheless.

Watch Leeds United Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

White was arguably Leeds’ most important player last term, starting every game in the heart of a defence that conceded fewer goals than any other Championship team, and his departure has left a gap that needs filling.

After conceding seven goals in their first two games, Leeds need to shore up their backline, and while they will be hoping that Llorente is the man to solve their problem, the long-term solution could be one of their young players.

Pascal Struijk got a run in the team towards the end of last season, and he took to playing in Bielsa’s side like a duck to water, being overwhelmingly praised by fans after his showing against Barnsley.

However, on his Premier League debut, he was thrown in at the deep end against defending champions Liverpool, who hit four past Leeds, but despite the Whites conceding four, it’s hard to argue that any of those goals were Struijk’s fault.

Two penalties were conceded by Koch and Rodrigo, while Virgil van Dijk’s goal was mostly down to Koch’s poor marking. Mo Salah’s second strike could be labelled as a lapse from the whole team, but it took a world-class finish for him to score from that position.

Making Struijk a regular in the Premier League immediately would undoubtedly be a bit of a risk due to his lack of experience, but this time last year Brighton were in a similar situation with White, having a very tidy player on their hands who needed to cut his teeth at a lower level and develop.

Leeds are apparently set to loan out a number of young players, and with Llorente, Koch, Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi in contention, centre-back is one of the most competitive spots in Bielsa’s XI, perhaps it’s best that Struijk goes out on loan this season, and if he impresses, who’s to say that he can’t come back into the fold as a stronger player, much like White has at Brighton?

Everton: Adrian Durham heaps praise on James Rodriguez

Adrian Durham has heaped praise on Everton ace James Rodriguez as he was asked on talkSPORT about who he thinks has been the player of the season so far in the Premier League.

Speaking on the radio station, the pundit said:

“My number 1 player of the season so far, I’d say James Rodriguez.

“He’s been a joy to watch. He’s shown how football should be played!â€

Rodriguez has had a great start

Indeed, Rodriguez has had a great start to the 2020/21 season for the Merseyside club, scoring three goals and supplying a further two assists in just four matches in the Premier League. He has also won a staggering 6.3 of his duels per game, as well as creating four big chances and averaging 3.3 key passes, two successful dribbles and 1.8 shots per match, according to Sofascore.

Proving Darren Bent wrong

Former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker Darren Bent asked if Rodriguez was “Premier League proven†in a tweet replying to a supporter’s question to him, and now he may be made to eat his words, with some members of the Goodison Park faithful even responding to his post a month later.

Everton are top of the Premier League

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are currently top of the Premier League, and given that Rodriguez has played in all four games, he has certainly had an influence on the results, with the Toffees picking up a maximum 12 points on offer.

Hard to disagree with Durham

Based off his stats so far in the EPL, it is therefore hard to disagree with Durham that Rodriguez has been the player of the season so far, but the Colombia international will surely need to maintain his impressive displays if he is to grab the official accolade at the end of the campaign.

Crystal Palace missed out on key summer signing in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins

Crystal Palace made a massive mistake in the summer transfer window by not signing Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins…

What was the story?

A report at the time from The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg and Ed Aarons revealed that Roy Hodgson’s side were battling with Premier League rivals Aston Villa to sign Watkins from Brentford in the summer.

The report revealed that Palace almost signed the striker for £10m the summer beforehand but faced fierce competition from Dean Smith’s side, who were looking to add more firepower to their attack after avoiding relegation.

In the end, Watkins moved to Villa for a club record fee of £28m, whilst the Eagles ended up signing Michy Batshuayi on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea instead.

Unforgivable error?

After a promising start to the season with a 1-0 win over Southampton, followed by a 3-1 win away at Manchester United, coupled with the fact their new signings had started to settle in well, Palace fans could have been forgiven for feeling a little optimistic.

However, things would soon take a turn for the worse, as Hodgson’s side suffered back-to-back defeats to Everton and Chelsea respectively before the international break. Batshuayi has made three appearances in the Premier League, but has failed to score so far, via WhoScored.

On the other hand, Watkins, who earns wages worth £75,000-per-week, has continued his fine form for Brentford at Villa Park. The 24-year-old, who is comfortable playing as an attacking midfielder or further forward, has shown that he is a potent goalscorer – he has already scored three goals in four games in the Premier League this season.

When you compare that to Palace’s options this season, well, then it’s a bit embarrassing really. Only Wilfried Zaha has scored more with four from five, whilst only Andros Townsend has managed to create more assists.

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith insists he is “something special”, after Watkins scored a hat-trick against Premier League champions Liverpool at Villa Park.

Even Jurgen Klopp spoke of his sheer admiration, as he admitted that the Englishman was “undefendable.” Whilst he may not have received an England callup quite just yet, he’s definitely a player who Steve Parish should have brought to Selhurst Park.

Watkins would’ve made a massive difference for Hodgson’s side, who could only muster one shot on target against Brighton in the A23 derby.

AND in other news, Steve Parish must return for Crystal Palace target Ismaila Sarr in January…
